Collectively, our Street Cleansing and Parks staff collect leaves from the city over the course of the winter months, with Street Cleansing staff focusing on the Highway and Parks staff covering our parks and greenspaces. The figure reported for this year is a massive 1500 tonnes.
Leaves are taken to Gillmoss Waste Transfer Station , after which they are transported to a recycling centre where they are made into compost and mulch to be re-used across green spaces. That’s 1500 tonnes of recycled leaves that are transported from our streets and park floors, back home into parks and greenspaces where their journey first began. This is brilliant for the environment year on year.
The leaf fall collection programme will end over the coming weeks. We wonder how many leaves LSSL are collected altogether?!
