Showcasing Liverpool’s Underground Super Bins!

The Beatles may have been Back in the USSR but we’re backin’ the URS (Underground Refuse System)!

Following the creation with APSE of a ground breaking procurement framework that has brought all the main European URS suppliers into the UK market, Liverpool City Council has become the first local authority in the UK to install URS as a replacement for wheeled bins.

This ground breaking move has already been covered by the national press, as well as the BBC’s The One Show and ITV News. Last week, LSSL held an Underground Super Bin Showcase Event with APSE, incorporating an exhibition of all the products available through the framework, and the chance to see the bins in action.

LSSL and LCC employees gave presentations on Liverpool’s journey towards more efficient and sustainable waste solutions. Attendees then got a ‘Ticket to Ride’ on the open top bus to Kensington to see the bins in action on site.

Reasons why Liverpool’s new URS is ground breaking:

  • A significant reduction in the cost of refuse and recycling collection
  • A major reduction in the carbon footprint of collecting waste and recycling
  • Reduced litter on streets
  • A more attractive street-scape
  • Value added commercial waste services
  • We hope that using this technology will reduce the resources required to collect waste in the areas they are installed by 50%!
